The Role of the Clerk
The Clerk is the Council's appointed administrative officer and often also undertakes the role of Proper Officer (signing legal documents) and Responsible Financial Officer (responsible for the overall management of the Council's finances). The primary function of the Clerk is to ensure that the Council operates legally, and to carry out the decisions of the Council. This is not simply a clerical role, but carries a great deal of responsibility and requirement for knowledge of law and procedures surrounding local councils. The Clerk is an employee of the Council and often holds the recognised professional qualification, Certificate in Local Council Administration.
The Clerk at Witton and Ridlington Parish Council is employed for 2.5 hours per week.
